Islam is a perfect religion. It left no stone untouched in our daily lives. A Muslim is supposed to be with Allah, under His care and protection all through his endeavours till death. This is the real and normal Muslim. To this, Islam has provided for a Muslim one or even more supplications for each and everything he does in all his ctivities from birth till death.
The prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Dua' (supplication) is the essence of worship" (Tirmidhi). He said: “Nothing can change the Divine decree except Dua.” ( Ahmad, Ibn Maajah and Tirmidhi); “Du’aa’ may be of benefit with regard to what has already happened or what has not yet happened, so adhere to Du’aa’, O slaves of Allaah.” (Tirmidhi); “No precaution can protect against the decree of Allaah. Du’aa’ is beneficial with regard to what has been decreed and what has not been decreed. The du’aa’ meets the calamity that has been decreed and wrestles with it, until the Day of Resurrection.” (Tabaraani. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh al-Jaami’: it is hasan).
Below are some of the simple daily supplications prescribed by our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for our benefit:
Du'a before sleeping:
Allahumma bismika amuutu wa ahyaa.
(Oh Allah! With your name I die and I live)
Du'a after waking up:
Alhamdulillahilladhi ahyaanaa ba'da maa amaata-naa wa ilaihin-nushuur.
(All praises belong and are due to Allah, Who gave us life after making us (temporarily) dead, and to Him belongs our return.
Du'a before entering the toilet:
Allahumma innii a'udhu bika minal khubthi wal khabaa'ith.
(Oh Allah! I seek protection in you from the filth and impure (demons).
Du'a after leaving the toilet:
Ghufraanaka allahumma
(I seek Your forgiveness, O Allah)
Du'a when looking into the mirror:
Alllahuma anta hasaanta khalqii fahassin khuluqii wa harrim wajhii alaa an'naar
(Oh Allah! You have made my physical shape beautiful, so make beautiful my character too and make my face forbidden for the Fire)
Du'a before eating:
Bismillaahi wa'alaa barakatillahi.
(In the name of Allah and with the blessing of Allah)
Du'a after eating:
Alhamdulillah alladhi at'amanaa wa saqaanaa wa ja'alana minal Muslimiin.
(All praises are due to Allah Who has provided us with food and drink and made us Muslims)
Du'a if one forgets to say Bismillah before eating:
Bismillahi awwalahuu wa aakhirahuu.
(In the name of Allah from the beginning until the end)
Du'a when leaving home:
Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallah laa haula walaa quwwata illa billah
(In the name of Allah, I depend on Allah, there is no power and might except from Allah)
On departing someone:
Astaudi'ullaha diinaka wa amaanataka wa khawaatiima a'malika.
(Unto Allah I commend your faith, your trust and the consequence of your work)
Du'a when entering the Mosque:
Allahumma iftah lii abwaaba rahmatika.
(Oh Allah! Open for me the gates of Your mercy)
Du'a on leaving the Mosque:
Allahumma innii as-aluka min fadhlika.
(Oh Allah! Verily, I seek from You bounty)
At the time of beginning ablution:
Bismillah.
(In the name of Allah)
Du'a after performing ablution:
Ashhadu anla ilaaha illallaahu wahdahuu laa sharikalahu wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhuu wa rasuluh allahumma ij'alnii minat tawwaabiina waj'alnii min almutatahhiriin.
(I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that He is the absolute one without a partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. Oh Allah!, make me one of those who constantly repent (from their sins) and those who purify themselves.)
When the adhan is being called:
