Verily, among the signs of Allah is the creation of Day and Night. The Quran says:
ﭽ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐ ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﭼ
Meaning: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for people of understanding.” (Q3:V190).
There are many verses in the Quran which explain the wisdom behind the creation of the Day and Night. Below are some of these verses:
ﭽ ﮜ ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢ ﮣ ﮤﮥ ﮦ ﮧ ﮨ ﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﭼ
Meaning: “It is He who made for you the night to rest therein and the day, light-giving. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.” (Q10:V67)
The Quran also said: ﭽ ﭯ ﭰ ﭱ ﭲ ﭳ ﭴ ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸ ﭹ ﭺ ﭼ
Meaning: “And made your sleep [a means for] rest, And made the night as clothing, And made the day for livelihood” (Q78:V9-11).
The above verses show that Allah made the Night a covering, for repose, and made the Day to seek livelihood.
Another wisdom behind the creation of the Day and Night is that Man may seek the bounty of his Lord and know the computation of years and numbers. This is indicated in a number of verses. The Quran says:
ﭽ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆ ﮇﮈ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐ ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﮕ ﮖ ﮗﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ﮛ ﮜ ﮝ ﭼ
Meaning: “And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail.” (Q17:V12).
The Quran also said:
ﭽ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ﯛ ﯜ ﯝ ﯞ ﯟ ﯠ ﯡ ﯢ ﯣﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ﯩ ﯪﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ﯯ ﯰ
Meaning: “It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account [of time]. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know” (Q10:V5).
Furthermore, the creation of the Day and Night is a testimony to the greatness of Allah and His abilities. Allah says in the Quran:
ﭽ ﭑ ﭒ ﭓ ﭔ ﭕ ﭖ ﭗ ﭘ ﭙ ﭚ ﭛ ﭜ ﭝ ﭞ ﭟ ﭠ ﭡﭢ ﭣ ﭤ ﭥ ﭦ ﭧ ﭨ ﭩ ﭪ ﭫ ﭬ ﭭ ﭮ ﭯ ﭰ ﭱ ﭲ ﭳ ﭴ ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸﭹ ﭺ ﭻ ﭼ ﭼ
Meaning: “Say, "Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light? Then will you not hear?", Say, "Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light? Then will you not hear?" (Q28:V71-72)
