BEING WITH THE PROPHET PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH BE UPON HIM IN HIS PLACE OF I’TIKAAF.
He peace be upon him did I’tikaaf in the first 10days of Ramadan and then the second 10days in search for lailatul Qadr(the Night of Decree) then it became apparent to him that it is in the last 10days then he became regular in doing I’tikaaf on that.
On the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudriy may Allah be please with said: Allah's Apostle used to practice Itikaf in the middle ten days of Ramadan and once he stayed in Itikaf till the night of the twenty-first and it was the night in the morning of which he used to come out of his Itikaaf? The Prophet said, "Whoever was in Itikaf with me should stay in Itikaf for the last ten days, for I was informed (of the date) of the Night (of Qadr) but I have been caused to forget it. (In the dream) I saw myself prostrating in mud and water in the morning of that night. So, look for it in the last ten nights and in the odd ones of them." It rained that night and the roof of the mosque dribbled as it was made of leaf stalks of date-palms. I saw with my own eyes the mark of mud and water on the forehead of the Prophet (i.e. in the morning of the twenty-first) and that was a sign of his prophet hood. He then continue to do perform I’tikaaf in the last 10days of Ramadan as is reported in the saheehain on the authority of Aesha may Allah be please with her that the prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him use to perform I’tikaaf in the last 10days of Ramadan until Allah took his soul and his wives performed I’tikaaf after him. Narrated by Bukhari and muslim.


During the year he died, he performed I’tikaaf for 20days narrated by Bukhari. Meaning the middle 10days and the last 10days and this was due to reasons among which are:
1. The angel Jibreel revised the Qur’an with him twice which necessitated spending 20days in I’tikaaf to enable him go through the twice revision of the Qur’an.
2. He, peace be upon him wanted to double his good deeds and to increase his acts of obedience.
3. He did that to give thanks to Allah for the favors bestowed upon him.

He, peace be upon him used to enter his place of I’tikaaf after sunset of the eve of the 21st night of the last 10 days. With regards to the report in sahih Bukhari and muslim that he peace be upon him entered his place of itikaaf after he had prayed the fajr salaat, what that means is that he entered the place specifically reserved for his itikaaf(in the masjid) as reported in sahih muslim that he peace and blessings of Allah be upon him performed itikaaf in a Turkish dome.naratted by Muslim. He peace and blessings of Allah be upon him used to stretched out his head to Aesha whilst she is in her room for her to comb it and to apply oil to it as reported by Bukhari and Muslim. In the Musnad of Imam Ahmad he used to lean on the door of her room and then will bring his head out for her to comb it.narrated by Ahmad. In that is a proof that there isn’t blame on one in the state of itikaaf to bring out part of his body and also no blame on the woman in her menses to enter part of her body in the Masjid such as the hand or the legs as that is not regarded as entering the masjid.

Also among the benefits of this hadith is that it is allowed for one in itikaaf to clean oneself, apply perfume and to wash the head itikaaf cannot be without all such things.
