While Islam presents itself as the only way of life for people to achieve salvation in the after-life, it also teaches its followers to live up to high standards in conduct with other human beings, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, race, language or culture. The Holy Quran is highly critical of Christian beliefs in Trinity and regarding Jesus (peace be on him) as a deity. The Holy Book is also very critical of the Jews for not accepting Jesus and Muhammad (peace be on them) as messengers of God. At the same time, however, it asks Muslims to establish a social association special only to Christians and Jews. Examples of such association are permission of marrying chaste women among them and giving explicit permission to eat their food. The Quran says in this regard:
ﭽ ﯚ ﯛ ﯜ ﯝﯞ ﯟ ﯠ ﯡ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧﯨ ﯩ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ﯯ ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﭼ
Meaning: “This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers.” (Q3:V5).
The Quran forbid Muslims to insult anything that is viewed as a deity by any religion, regardless of whether it is a person, a stone, a stick or a tree. Allah says: ﭽ ﮬ ﮭ ﮮ ﮯ ﮰ ﮱ ﯓ ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﭼ
Meaning: “And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge.” (Q6:V108).
Islam wants its adherents to be just to every human being. The Quran says: ﭽ ﮨ ﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭ ﮮ ﮯﮰ ﮱ ﯓ ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘﯙ ﯚ ﯛ ﯜ ﯝﯞ ﯟ ﯠﯡ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ ﭼ
Meaning: “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.” (Q5:V8).
Muslims are enjoined to humble and respectful. The Quran says: ﭽ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ ﯼ ﯽ ﯾ ﯿﰀ ﰁ ﰂ ﰃ ﰄ ﰅ ﰆ ﰇ ﰈ ﭼ
Meaning: “And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.” (Q31:V18).
The also forbids Muslims from mocking others and looking down upon them. Allah says: ﭽ ﯨ ﯩ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ﯯ ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ ﯼ ﯽﯾ ﯿ ﰀ ﰁ ﰂ ﰃ ﰄﰅ ﰆ ﰇ ﰈ ﰉ ﰊﰋ ﰌ ﰍ ﰎ ﰏ ﰐ ﰑ ﰒ ﭼ
Meaning: “O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” (Q49:V11).
