Peace and Blessings be upon the Prophet of Mercy, Love and Peace. If a people love you they are rewarded, and if a people adore your biography they are commended, and if a people fall in love with your teachings they are excused. I expect every lover of truth, who adorns equity to read objectively the biography of the infallible Prophet, Muhammad the son of Abdullah- peace be upon him. Every time I read his biography with scrutiny and close examination two facts become manifest to me. The First: that salvation, success and bliss can only be attained by following him alone. The Second: that many among us have been unjust to his traditions and biography when they understood it in a distorted manner, and they presented it to others in a wrong image. I read in authentic tradition that he- peace be upon him- holds the bridle of a camel and he puts his leg on the knee of the camel in order for one of his wives to climb, while he prepares her for ridding. Who among us does this for his wife? In another authentic tradition it was narrated that he was in the house of A’isha when one of his wives sent him a gift of food in a bowl, so A’isha became jealous and she hit the bowl, broke it and the food scattered. The Prophet in a quiet and calm manner with wisdom took a bowl from the house of A’isha, put some food in it and sent it with the servant girl to his other wife saying: “food for food and bowl for bowl”. I read in an authentic tradition that an Arab Bedouin came from the desert and held the garment of the Messenger of Allah- peace be upon him- and pulled it harshly till his neck became red and the garment impacted on his neck. Then, the Arab Bedouin shouted in disgust and anger in the face of the Messenger of Allah saying: give me from the wealth of Allah with you not from the wealth of your father or mother. The Prophet laughed in magnanimity, pardon and patience and he ordered that he should be given a donation. I read in another authentic tradition that a woman stopped him- peace be upon him- in one of the roads of Medina in the sun and the Prophet stopped for her until she finished what she wanted to say. A young maid also held his hand and he went with her till she showed him a dead she goat in one of the roads of Medina. An Arab Bedouin also urinated in the Mosque and the companions wanted to beat him up but the Prophet prevented them, showed affection to the Arab Bedouin until he learnt the tradition of the Prophet and good manners.
The Arab Bedouins gathered around him- peace be upon him- in Hunain demanding for donations. They dragged his garment and his garment got hanged to a tree. Yet he distributed the booties to them without keeping even a dirham or dinar for himself. His enemies went extreme in harming him. They kicked him out of his town, insulted him, fought him, wounded him on his head and broke his front tooth. His heels were bleeding and they killed his companions. Then, he conquered them at the end and said to them: “may Allah forgive you, go for you are free”. He translated his characters with his saying: “verily Allah commanded me to join ties with whoever broke it with me, to forgive whoever wronged me, and to give whoever denied me”. He carries children playing with them, laughing and joking with them. He carried Umama the daughter of Zainab- his daughter- on his shoulders while he was leading people in prayers. When a person shakes him he does not pull out his hand from the hand of the one who shook him until the person leaves his hand. He smiles in the faces of people. He selects in his speeches the most tender, beautiful, preferable, and pleasant words. He repels evil by that which is better, he suppresses anger, and forgives error. He honors the elderly, shows mercy to the young, and sympathizes with the needy. He assists the oppressed and protects the rights of his companions. He directly carries out services by himself. Thus, he repairs his shoes, picks his clothes, repairs his house, helps his family in domestic work and assists his companions in their duties. He rides on donkey, walks barefooted, and sleeps on the ground. He ties stone to his stomach because of hunger, eats with the needy, and visits the week and the sick. Thus, he deserves with merit Allah’s words: “And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”
I was reading together with one of my colleagues and friends chapters on his biography- peace be upon him, then I raised my head to ask my friend to comment on what he has heard and surprisingly, his tears was coming down on his cheek and he was saying: enough, enough.
Verily, the most beautiful comment, and the best commentary on his biography- peace be upon him- is to send your hot and sincere tears yearning for his companionship, and being passionate with his biography. And to send it a second time crying over our sorry state while we are harsh and severe. We are not patient, we do not persevere, we do not forgive, and we do not condone except whoever your Lord is merciful to. Can we have a sincere return to his biography- peace be upon him?
