وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ (1)
1. By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star);
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ (2)
2. And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is?
النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ (3)
3. (It is) the star of piercing brightness;
إِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ (4)
4. There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels in charge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.)
Allah swears by the heaven and the star which strikes the night, and what will make you know the greatness of this star? It is a bright and glowing star. There is no soul except that there is an angel watching over it, recording all its deeds for it to be recompensed on the Day of Judgment.
فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ (5)
5. So let man see from what he is created!
خُلِقَ مِنْ مَاءٍ دَافِقٍ (6)
6. He is created from a water gushing forth
يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ (7)
7. Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs,
إِنَّهُ عَلَى رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ (8)
8. Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)!
Let man who denies resurrection see from what he was created for him to know that repeating the creation of man is not more difficult than creating it in the first place. He was created from semen poured quickly in to the womb. It comes out from between the back bone of a man and the ribs of a woman. Verily, the one who created man from this liquid is capable of returning him to life after death.
يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ (9)
9. The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth).
فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ (10)
10. Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper.
On the day when all secretes will be examined in what were hidden, and the good ones will be differentiated from the bad ones. Man will have no power to protect himself; neither will there be any helper to protect him from the punishment of Allah.
وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ (11)
11. By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again.
وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ (12)
12. And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants),
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ (13)
13. Verily! This (the Qur'an) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).
وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ (14)
14. And it is not a thing for amusement.
By the sky with repeated rain, and by the earth with cleavages as a result of growing trees and plants, verily, the Quran is a word that separates truth from falsehood. And it is not a thing of amusement. It is not permissible for the created to swear by other than Allah otherwise he has committed shirk.
إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا (15)
15. Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad ( )).
وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا (16)
16. And I (too) am planning a plan.
فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا (17)
17. So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while.
Verily, those who disproof the messenger of Allah and the Quran are plotting to turn away the truth and uphold falsehood. And I am also planning to bring out the truth even if the unbelievers detest that. Hence, do not hurry- O Prophet- to seek punishment against them. Rather, give them respite and you will see what will befall them of punishment and destruction.
