وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ (1)
1. By the heaven, holding the big stars.
وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ (2)
2. And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ (3)
3. And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the witnessed day Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah];
قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ (4)
4. Cursed were the people of the ditch (the story of the Boy and the King).
النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ (5)
5. Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel,
إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ (6)
6. When they sat by it (fire),
وَهُمْ عَلَى مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ (7)
7. And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers (i.e. burning them).
وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ (8)
8. They had nothing against them, except that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!
الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ (9)
9. Who, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness over everything.
Allah swears by the heavens which have a place where the star and the moon pass through, and by the Day of Judgment which He promised to gather all creation in it, a witness shall bear witness and the witnessed shall be witnessed. Allah swears by whatever He wills among His creations but as for the creature, it is not permissible for him to swear by other than Allah because that is shirk i.e associating partners to Allah. Cursed are the outlawed on earth who committed grievous crime by punishing the believers, they set up great fire with fuel, they sat by the furrows sticking to it, and they witnessed what they were doing to the believers of persecution and punishment. They were not inflicted with this great punishment except because they were believers in Allah the All- Mighty who cannot be over powered by anybody, the praiseworthy in His speeches, deeds and attributes, the one to who belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and He the Most High witnesses everything, nothing is hidden from him.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ (10)
10. Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance, (to Allah), will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire.
Verily, those who burnt the believing men and women in other to change them from the religion of Allah and then do not turn to Allah in repentance, for them is the torment of Hell fire in the hereafter and for them is the punishment of the burning fire.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ (11)
11. Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success.
Verily, those who believed in Allah and His messenger and do righteous good deeds, for them are gardens with rivers flowing under its palaces and trees. That is the great success.
إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ (12)
12. Verily, (O Muhammad ( )) the Grip (Punishment) of your Lord is severe.
إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ (13)
13. Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection).
وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ (14)
14. And He is Oft-Forgiving, full of love (towards the pious who are real true believers of Islamic Monotheism),
ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ (15)
15. Owner of the throne, the Glorious
فَعَّالٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُ (16)
16. He does what He intends (or wills).
Verily, the vengeance of your Lord from his enemies and His punishment for them is great and severe. It is He who originates creation and repeats it and He is oft- Forgiving to those who repent, full of love toward His pious servants. He is the owner of the great throne which is of extreme grace and honor, He does what He wills and nothing desist from what He wills.
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ (17)
17. Has the story reached you of the hosts,
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ (18)
18. Of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Thamud?
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ (19)
1. Nay! The disbelievers (persisted) in denying (Prophet Muhammad ( ) and his Message of Islamic Monotheism).
وَاللَّهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ مُحِيطٌ (20)
2. And Allah encompasses them from behind!
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَجِيدٌ (21)
3. Nay! This is a Glorious Qur'an,
فِي لَوْحٍ مَحْفُوظٍ (22)
22. (Inscribed) in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet)!
Has the story of the groups of disbelievers who belied the prophets reached you- O Prophet? Fir’aun and thamud? And what befell them of great punishment and torment? The people have not taken admonition from that. Rather, those who disbelieved have continued to disproof like those before them whereas Allah is well acquainted with them and has might over them. Nothing about them and their deeds is hidden from Him. The Quran is not as those who disproof and associate partners with Allah have claimed that it is poetry and magic hence, they disproof it. Rather, it is a glorious and honorable Quran inscribed in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet) no distortion or alteration affects it.
