عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (1)
1 What are they asking (one another)?
عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ (2)
2 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Qur'an, which Prophet Muhammad brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.),
الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ (3)
3. About which they are in disagreement.
About what are some unbelievers from the Quraish asking one another? They are asking one another about the Great News. That is the Glorious Qur’an which brings news of the Day of Judgment. A day the Quraish are doubtful of, and they disproof.
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ (4)
4 Nay, they will come to know!
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ (5)
5. Nay, again, they will come to know!
The issue is not like these polytheist claim. These polytheists will know the end result of their disproof, and that which Allah will do to them on the Day of Judgment will be clear to them. And the Truth of what Muhammad came with of the Qur’an and the News of the Day of Judgment will be certain to them.
This is a threat to them.
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا (6)
6. Have We not made the earth as a bed,
Have we not made the earth flat like a bed
وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا (7)
7. And the mountains as pegs?
And the mountains (we have made) unshakable so that the earth will not shake you off
وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا (8)
8. And We have created you in pairs.
And we created you into categories of male and female.
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا (9)
9. And have made your sleep as a thing for rest.
And we made your sleep a means of rest for your body; in it you find rest and tranquility
وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا (10)
10. And have made the night as a covering.
We made the night a covering; its darkness covers you the way a garment covers the one wearing it.
وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا (11)
11. And have made the day for livelihood.
We made the Day for livelihood; you go about in it in search of your livelihood and you pursue therein that which is beneficial to you
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا (12)
12. And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
We built above you seven heavens, firmly constructed and well- knitted in creation. It has neither break nor cleavages
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا (13)
13. And have made (therein) a shining lamp
We have made the Sun as a burning lamp with bright lights.
وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا (14)
14. And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water.
لِنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا (15)
15. That We may produce therewith corn and vegetation,
وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا (16)
16. And gardens of thick growth.
We sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water in other to bring forth grains of which people feed and grasses of which animals feed and gardens in which are trees with winded branches.
